Summary

Visiting Jill’s new office and strolling around campus.

I recently found a piece of software that allows me to control my camera and take time-lapse photographs, so we headed down to Texas State to get some shots of people walking around campus. We hit a speed bump, however, when we quickly realized that campus on a Friday night was pretty much deserted.

Since the time-lapse thing didn’t work out (I’ll have to do one later to post here) we took these photos instead.

Maybe we’ll have better luck on a weekend when Texas State has a home game. They lost this weekend to Jill’s other alma mater, SUU.

Summary

An evening walk with a surprise ending!

Today we were itching to get out of the house for a family walk, given the break from the rain and my new camera lens. Walking around the wooded campus at St. Edwards was our first choice, but we quickly had to abandon that as we couldn’t find anywhere to park.

Just up the road, however, was Congress Avenue which has plenty of historical buildings and little nooks to explore and capture some shots.

Perhaps the best part of the evening came after our walk when Brigham called me on our way home. Usually this isn’t a very exciting experience (just kidding Brig) but Jill and I were shocked when we walked into the house and found Brig, Stephanie and their kids sitting down in our living room! Apparently Jill and I forgot to lock our front door and Brig had driven down to pick up his router. When he found the door was unlocked, he figured they’d make themselves comfortable and wait for us to come home. It was a great trick and after I figured out what was going on, we all sat down and enjoyed some ice cream.

Summary

Enjoying an evening of Texas State football with the family.

Since UT’s popularity has been on the rise, it has become increasingly more expensive to try and find tickets for any Texas home game. Instead, Jill and I have found an equally exciting and ridiculously cheaper option to get our football-fix. Since Jill’s a student at Texas State and Asher is a kid, it turns out we can go to Texas State football games for a mere $13. Compared to $150 per ticket to go to UT, this was a no-brainer for us.

Tonight Texas State played Texas Southern. While at first we had our concerns, considering the Texas Southern offensive line was twice the size of any Texas State player, an early lead by Texas State set our fears at ease that things were under control.

Texas State prevailed with a comfortable final score of 52-18 and we even got a nice half-time show and some cherry snow cones out of the evening. Go Bobcats!

Summary

A fancy new lens for my Nikon D40

Over the last eight months I have really gotten some mileage out of my Nikon D40 camera. The pictures I’ve been able to take of Asher & Co. have really come a long way from our old Kodak point and shoot. To date, everything on this blog has been shot with the same lens which is remarkable considering that it was the kit lens that came with the camera body.

Today, however, Jill let me upgrade lenses with a fancy new AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. Now that may not mean a whole lot to anyone (it took me a while to figure it out) but it’s a nice lens that lets me take more portrait-style photos and where there’s not a ton of light, so I can start shooting better indoor shots.

These are just a few test shots. Hopefully, once I get used to this new lens and what it can do, I can start posting some nice photos.

Summary

A break from the rain gives us an evening to play in the back yard.

We’ve really been glad for all the rain we’ve been getting this week, though it was nice to see that the sun decided to come out today. However, it would seem that all the rain did leave behind some interesting cloud formations. Check out the photos and see what you think!

Also, this was the first time Asher had been able to go out and swing in about a week, so we was very excited for the opportunity.
