Summary

Celebrating Jill's graduation with friends and family.

After graduation, everyone headed up to the institute building in Austin near UT campus for Jill’s graduation party. Thanks to the efforts of Aaron and Katrina, we were able to celebrate with plenty of food and dessert with the addition of a pool table, ping pong table, foosball tables and more!

Everyone really enjoyed themselves and went home extremely full and tired. It was a great way to celebrate this day for Jill.

Summary

Jill's graduation from Texas State University.

At last the day has come! Jill was officially graduated and is henceforth known as Dr. Cochran. As far as graduations go, it was one of the best that anyone there had attended. The entire ceremony, which lasted only an hour, was well organized and Jill’s portion was done within the first 15 minutes.

There was an awesome amount of family in attendance, both Ashdowns and Cochrans, and it was a special treat to have Jill’s entire immediate family there to celebrate. The funny thing about having so many people in attendance was that we took up an entire row in the coliseum. The bad news was that unlike the undergraduates where it’s expected that you’ll hoop and holler, it’s considered poor form to cheer and shout when a PhD candidate is being hooded. Congrats Jill!

Summary

Our first mile long hike in Rome.

Despite the relatively hot summer we’ve been having in Rome, today was rather pleasant so Asher and I decided to take a mile-long hike, which would be our longest yet. We set out halfway up the mountain at the beginning of the trail and set our sites on one of the first landmarks on the trail - a bench to rest on. With the promise of donuts when we reached the top, Asher was a trooper about trudging along the pretty steep trail until we reach our goal.

After a few celebratory donuts, we decided to head back down to the car. For this leg of the trip, I decided not to hold Asher’s hand to see how well he’d do on the trail and it turned out that he didn’t bite the dust until the very end when he tripped over a tree root.

Summary

Asher's adventure into eating ice cream cones.

Asher has recently learned that he likes ice cream. Despite our best efforts to get him to try new things, he resisted our attempts to get him to eat ice cream cones until recently.



We’re still working on the whole process, however. He hasn’t figured out that you can bit the cone to get to the ice cream on the inside and instead stuck is face in the middle of the cone.

Summary

A hike up to the Old Mill on Berry's Mountain Campus.

Today Asher and I found ourselves driving up to the mountain campus at Berry again. This time we decided to check out the old mill near a small creek on the mountain. The mill was much larger that we had anticipated and Asher had a lot of fun throwing rocks into the nearby water.

Afterward we forged down the mountain in the Scion to go and grab a bit of lunch.
