Summary

A nice evening stroll along the San Marcos River.

This week for our weekend outing, Jill decided that we should head down to San Marcos and take a leisurely stroll around the San Marcos River. Asher grew increasingly excited as we neared the banks as the ducks allowed him to get up pretty close before taking off to float down the river.

Jill had to do her best to keep Asher from climbing through the railing over the pond to go swim with the turtles, but in the end, she did let him take off his shoes and splash a little bit.

Summary

Beating the heat with a little fun in the fountains.

As many of you know, Austin has been going through a major heat wave this summer. This weekend we officially reached our 60th day of 100+ degree weather. The worst part about all of this is how it has cut into our ability to spend time outside without being miserable.

Today, however, we found a nice park next to the Long Center in downtown Austin that had a turtle pond and water fountains to enjoy. The water fountains were the type that were meant to be run though, so Asher of course had to make the best of it.

The funniest part of the whole ordeal was the fact that Asher progressively got slower as his diaper increasingly got heavier with all the water it absorbed. By the end of our outing he had added a good five or six pounds of water weight.

Summary

Cooling down on a hot Sunday afternoon with some pink lemonade.

To beat the heat on a hot Sunday evening, Asher decided to make some nice pink lemonade. He did a pretty decent job mixing it all up, though it appears that we’ll have to work on his pouring skills.

Summary

Half unicycle. Half football. All awesome.

Today while out on our family drives, we spotted something quite unusual happening in a stray parking lot in San Marcos. Knowing that there is no shortage of odd entertainment in San Marcos (which I attribute to the utter lack of proper entertainment in the city), we decided to pull over and check it out.

As it turns out, San Marcos has a budding Unicycle Football League. It was great to watch and there was quite a crowd getting into it. Even Asher couldn’t help but cheer on each team as they unicycled their way toward the end zone.

Apparently, this was the long-awaited playoff game in anticipation of next week’s Super Bowl. I’m guessing we won’t be around for it, but it was a great way to kick back and enjoy a non-traditional sport.

Summary

Celebration Asher's second birthday with cupcakes and family.

Because of an extremely hectic week, we decided to forgo the usual niceties on Thursday (Asher’s actual birthday) and instead celebrate in on Friday. Our purpose in this was two-fold. First, Asher had his 2 year checkup on Thursday which meant shots, which put him in a bit of a sour mood. Second, Friday was easier for all of us and it also meant that Brigham and Stephanie were able to bring over all of Asher’s cousins to play.

As usual, Asher made out with a boat load of cars including a few of the radio controlled variety. The only downside to this all was that I wasn’t able to find him the gas-powered go-kart I had been hoping to find for him. There’s always next year...
