Summary

An evening of Rock Band at Tiffani's house.

After of family picnic, most of us headed over to Tiffani’s for a late evening of Rock Band. In anticipation of the event, and given Asher’s poor night of sleep the previous evening, we took every precaution in anticipation of what would become a raucous event. We put Asher down to sleep in the very back of Spencer’s closet with hopes of dampening the sound of the guitar-shredding and glass-shattering vocals.

Surprisingly, the largest disappointment of the night was not that Jill opted to do homework in the craft room while the rest of us played, but rather that when it came to be my turn to sing, I realized I didn’t recognize any of the songs!

Summary

Most of the family gets together for a picnic in Houston.

This weekend we had the excellent opportunity to head down to Houston to see the majority of my brothers and sisters. With Mom and Dad and Tiffani already living there, in addition to Kishele and David down there for a summer internship, Rebekeh down from Indiana to visit and Brig and Stephanie in town from Austin, we all got together to enjoy a nice picnic at the park.

We all enjoyed an excellent spread while the kids played on the playground and kicked the ball around a bit. It’s a rare happenstance when most of us together (ahem, Justin), so we were happy to be able to take advantage of it.

Summary

Asher and I get to meet and talk to Alex Trebek.

Last week Jill had given me the heads up that Texas State’s Distinguished Speaker Series was coming up and that this year’s featured speaker would be a personal favorite of mine, Alex Trebek. So Asher and I headed down to campus tonight to see if we could catch some of it. We ended up hanging outside the main auditorium, for fear that Asher would be a bit too noisy, but they were broadcasting it out there as well so we were able to listen to his talk.



Afterwards, we got to speak to him briefly and Asher told him ’Hello. I ate chicken and skittles!’ Alex Trebek was amused and we got to take a photo with him!

Summary

Enjoying the few short weeks of Texas wildflowers in bloom.

It is well known that Texas is home to fields and fields or bluebonnets and wildflowers every spring. In years past, however, this trend had declined because of winter droughts. Thanks to a ton of rain over the last few months, the wild flowers have returned!

So this afternoon, we packed up the car and headed out to find a great spot to photograph the flowers. After driving in a big circle for an hour, we nearly gave up hope of finding some flowers, when we discovered a great spot with a white picket fence, just minutes from our house.

After running and playing in the flowers for about a half hour, it was only when we headed back to the car that we realized the field was also home to lots of cacti. How we managed not to run into one of them remains a mystery.

Summary

Dying Easter eggs with Aaron and Katrina.

Per tradition, (two years in a row constitutes a tradition in our house) we got together with Aaron and Katrina to enjoy a nice dinner and some egg dying. We ended up spending quite a bit of time out back on the swing set where we relaxed and watched Asher endlessly chase Pollux.

After we dyed the eggs, we enjoyed a rousing game of egg toss out in the back yard, much to the detriment of the eggs.
