Since Marcia has been staying with us to help out with Asher, we’ve tried to get her out of the house every once in a while to enjoy all that Austin has to offer. Today, the weather was uncharacteristically tolerable, so we decided to head over to Mount Bonnell where you can look down on Town Lake.

While it took quite a bit of effort to keep Asher from hurling himself off the side of the rock face, everyone really enjoyed sitting back and enjoying a light breeze while the sun set in the hill country.

Every once in a while, Scion will send out invites to events going on in Austin for use to attend. Last year we got to go to an independent film festival at Alamo Drafthouse which turned out to be pretty fun.

Most recently, we got invited to go downtown to sample music from the newest lineup on Scion’s music label. The first few DJs laid down some nice beats and we chilled out for a couple of hours. And of course, at the end of the night we came away with a nice shoulder bag full of Scion-branded swag to enjoy.

Father’s Day was very relaxing this year, given that Jill let me take an extra long nap in the afternoon. By Sunday evening it was time to get out of the house, however, so we decided to head over to Zilker Park for their weekly classical music presentation.

The weather was nice, though a little on the hot side, but the music was a little more drab than we were expecting so we didn’t stay long. Well, that and Asher ate all of my Swedish Fish, so there was no point in sticking around any longer.

One of the nice things about the Tetris shelves that I built a few years back is that, unlike traditional furniture, if you ever get tired of how these shelves look, you can simply take them apart and reconfigure them.

This last weekend we decided it was time for a change, and as such, I started a weekend-long chore of disassembling and reassembling all the electric components and shelves. This new configuration boasts a few drastic improvements over the older one, including a beefed up media server (the old Spartacus Jr. computer has been retired to make way for the Mac G5), a 12-inch touch screen to control lights and music, and better access to the Roland 808 for mixing beats.

The most time consuming aspect about this new update was building the custom stand for the touch screen and the Roland, but we’re really enjoying having a fresh look in the living room. Oh, and Asher really likes the ’T’ - shaped bookshelf by the lounge chair.

Tonight we went over to the city park in Kyle for ’Movies in the Park’. They were showing Kung Fu Panda which none of us had ever seen, so we figured we would pack up a blanked and some snacks and head over.

It was a great night for it; the days around here have been over 100 degrees, but thankfully it’s been cooling off around sunset. We showed up early to get a good seat, so Asher played on the playground while we waited for the movie to start.

We all enjoyed the movie, it was pretty funny, although it did mean another late night for Asher.

As strange as it sounds, for all the years that we’ve lived in Austin, we have never gone to see the bats come out at sunset at the Congress Street Bridge. Since Jill had class late tonight, Marcia, Asher and I piled into the car to go see if we could take a gander.

While Marcia was disappointed that they all didn’t fly out a one time, I still though that it was pretty cool that there was a continuous stream of bats flying out from under the bridge for a good 10 minutes.

Saturday afternoon Brigham invited me to go up with Stephanie and the kids to the Butterfly Museum in Houston. I didn’t have much else to do, so I grabbed the camera and headed out. Other than not seeing very many butterflies, the museum wasn’t bad. They had more stuff than one person could do in a lifetime, that’s for sure.

But Mason and the twins seemed to enjoy it fairly well so I’d write it off as an overall success.

For my last weekend that Jill was gone in Wyoming, I headed down to Houston to visit the parents and see Spencer baptized. Saturday morning, mom, dad, Brig and I went to the Houston Temple to do some work.
